Scirocco Brake Master Cylinder

Note: We highly suggest painting these with VHT Satin Epoxy paint – PN: SP652. Some of these are not coated, or come with a very thin coat of paint. Furthermore, this will protect the master cylinder if brake fluid gets on it. If it does, wip off immediately as it is not impervious and could strip paint over time.

Proper Install & Bleed Procedure:
NOTE: Do not bench bleed master cylinder

Pre Install:
* Lay out thick rags under brake master cylinder before starting.
* Have a 10mm rubber cap ready to cap off brake line fitting.
* Have brake cleaner ready to clean up any brake fluid that may drip.
* Brake fluid WILL strip paint and coatings.

Removal & Install
– Remove brake lines from old master cylinder
– Remove bolts from master cylinder to booster
– Slowly remove brake master from brake booster.
– Install new master cylinder.
– Reattach brake lines to new master cylinder and torque to 14 nm / 10 ft Lbs / 123 Inch Lbs
– Remove cap from old master cylinder reservoir.
– Upend reservoir into a container to drain 100% of the fluid. Pump the piston to remove all the fluid from the master cylinder as well.
– Remove reservoir from oil master cylinder.

* Now is a good time to clean the reservoir. There are many good techniques online on how to clean and remove the yellow from the plastic.

– After cleaning, thoroughly dry, then install reservoir on new master cylinder.
– Fill w/ DOT4, Super DOT4, or DOT5.1 brake fluid.

If you have a pressure bleeder, pressure bleed system first. If not, Skip to Bleeding, Without Pressure Bleeder

Bleeding, w/ Pressure Bleeder
1. Connect pressure bleeder to fluid reservoir.
2. Connect hose from bleeder bottle to calipers and bleed brakes in the following sequence:
a. Right Rear caliper/wheel cylinder
b. Left Rear caliper/wheel cylinder
c. Right Front caliper
d. Left Front caliper

Bleeding, Without Pressure Bleeder
1. Connect hose from bleeder bottle to brake at each wheel using above sequence.
2. Pump brake pedal several times and then hold pedal down.

DO NOT PRESS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.
THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR MASTER CYLINDER!

3. Open bleed screw.
4. Close bleed screw.

CAUTION: The brake fluid level in the reservoir must not fall below the MIN mark during bleeding.

5. Release brake pedal.
6. Repeat operation until brake fluid flows without air bubbles.

Brake Master Cylinder 16v

Replacing your Scirocco 16v Brake Master Cylinder is essential for ensuring your vehicle’s safety and performance. The brake master cylinder plays a crucial role in your car’s braking system by converting your foot’s pressure on the brake pedal into hydraulic force, which then engages the brakes at each wheel. Over time, wear and tear can lead to diminished performance, resulting in a longer stopping distance and increased risk of accidents.

One of the most compelling reasons to replace the brake master cylinder is the potential for brake fluid leaks. If you notice a decrease in brake fluid levels or see fluid pooling under your vehicle, it’s a sign that your master cylinder may be failing. A leak not only compromises your braking ability but also allows air into the brake lines, which can lead to soft or spongy brakes. In this situation, prompt replacement ensures that you maintain reliable braking performance.

Additionally, a failing brake master cylinder can lead to uneven braking force at the wheels. This imbalance can cause your car to pull to one side when braking, making it difficult to control the vehicle, particularly in emergency situations. By replacing the master cylinder, you restore effective and even braking, enhancing both your safety and the driving experience.

Finally, consider the peace of mind that comes with knowing your vehicle’s braking system is in optimal condition. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of critical components like the brake master cylinder contribute to your car’s longevity and performance. Don’t risk your safety or the integrity of your Scirocco; replacing the brake master cylinder now can save you from more costly repairs and ensure a smooth, safe ride.
