Oil Service Recommendation:
– Mostly freeway driving, every 6,000 – 7,500 miles.
– Mostly stop and go driving, every 2,500 – 3,000 miles.
– Average of both, ever 4,000 – 5,000 miles

Determining the Optimal Oil Service Interval

Scientific oil analysis is the most accurate diagnostic tool available. It determines the best service interval for a higher-mileage Scirocco. You will need to perform laboratory tests on your fluid.

The Testing Procedure

  1. Purchase two WIX laboratory oil analysis kits.

  2. Drive the vehicle for 2,500 miles.

  3. Change the oil and capture your first sample.

  4. Drive the vehicle for a 5,000-mile interval.

  5. Change the oil and capture your second sample.

  6. You can Submit both fluid samples at the same time, or after each interval to the WIX laboratory.

Interpreting the Results

The laboratory will analyze your oil for each interval. Their final report dictates your ideal mileage between services. A comprehensive summary is located at the bottom of each document.

Furthermore, this analysis identifies microscopic wear metals in the fluid.

  • Copper, Lead, & Tin: High amounts indicate potential rod or crank bearing wear.

  • Iron or Nickel: High amounts could point to cylinder wall or piston ring degradation.

  • Aluminum: High levels suggest your piston wrist pins could be wearing out.

  • Multiple Metals: A combination of these indicates severe, widespread internal wear.

The Benefits of Early Detection

This detailed data allows for highly targeted component repairs. You can address failing parts before they cause catastrophic failure. Ultimately, this prevents permanent damage to the block, crank, or rods. This proactive approach saves you from a complete engine rebuild.

Engine Air Filter:

– Normal Conditions – Every 15,000 miles
– Dusty / Dry Conditions – Every 7,500 – 10,000 miles

Spark Plugs:
– Every 45,000 or every 3 years, whichever comes first

Brake Fluid:
– Wet / Cold Climates, every 2 years
